In this online interactive training you will learn the fundamentals of using the sandtray in play therapy. Through experiential exercises, you will gain a felt sense of sandtray play and practice ways to expand your ability to be fully present with play therapy clients. At the same time, you will be reinforcing concepts of Interpersonal Neurobiology in order to gain a deeper understanding of what happens in the brain when sand, play, and warm, empathic relationships are brought together into a powerful healing experience.

Participants in this training will be able to:

  • Facilitate a play therapy session using the Body-Brain Approach to Sandtray therapy.
  • List the benefits of using the sandtray as a play therapy treatment modality.
  • Practice using body-based questions to deepen the play therapy client’s experience of sandtray play.
  • Connect foundational concepts of neurobiology to the primacy of the play therapist/client relationship as it manifests using the sandtray.
  • Explain the role of the witness in the sandtray play therapy process.
  • Trace the development of using the sandtray in the history of play therapy.
  • Discuss the way symbolic material arises in the play therapy process using the sandtray.
  • For the purpose of documentation, recognize play therapy themes as they appear during a sandtray therapy session.
